DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER DIESEL FUEL PUMPS GILLINGHAM, KENTWe are currently seeking a Design and Development Engineer to join a team providing fuel injection system designs for engines using medium duty product technologies that meet market requirements world wide. They will ensure that the resulting designs meet company standards of product performance, design & cost and that they are capable of meeting the quality and in use targets for reliability. They will meet with customers’ engineers at appropriate levels when required to ensure that their engineering aspirations are met for agreed programmes. The job role will involve product engineering design and development activities as well as manufacturing and aftermarket support for the full range of non common rail products – principally rotary pumps and mechanical injectors, but including occasionally unit pumps and in line pumps. The Design and Development Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of mechanical and electro-mechanical diesel fuel injection system components, devising and executing test and analysis work on fuel injection equipment rigs, engines and vehicles as appropriate and contributing to design and development reviews at appropriate stages of projects. The role will involve organising the procurement and testing of sample hardware to meet project requirements. The successful candidate will have a degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject, and will preferably be working towards or have already achieved Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. Ideally you will also have experience of design, development and support of complex automotive component products from product concept through volume manufacturing to service only. You will also be familiar with engine control and fuel injection systems. The ability to operate effectively in a multi-national multi-lingual project environment is essential. You must have excellent personal and presentation skills, to enable liaison with internal teams and to represent the company to external clients, and good written and spoken fluency in English is crucial. You must have knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Project etc., an understanding of the capabilities of CAD and FEA packages and the ability to operate Solidworks CAD package either immediately or after training. Some ability in a second language (ideally Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese or Tamil) would be advantageous.
