Facilities Maintenance Assistant Job in Derbyshire, East Midlands, UK

We are seeking an effective Maintenance Assistant, reporting to the Maintenance Manager, to ensure all facilities are always available for use and provide a maintenance program so that operational needs are always met. They will ensure a consistent approach to maintenance, and being responsible for services in a number of schools.

To succeed as Maintenance Assistant, you will have a generally good level of education and a background in maintenance preferably with a trade qualification and experience in one of the Electrical, Mechanical and Building Fabric areas. You will have sound knowledge of safe maintenance, cleaning techniques and IOSH Managing Safely. A full UK driving licence is also required.

Your role as Maintenance Assistant will be based around health and safety, customer service and security. You will create a safe environment within the premises ensuring safety for all users. You will immediately report any hazards discovered and assist in ensuring pedestrian safety at all times using appropriate methods and equipment.

You will ensure that customer satisfaction is evident in all actions taken. You will liaise with the Facilities Management office with regards to customer requests and tasks, ensuring Service Desk requests are actioned promptly, and undertake general porterage duties as directed.

You will provide a secure environment. This will involve contributing to the company’s Security Management System, ensuring that all windows and doors are in a state of repair at all times and that appropriate action is taken against trespassers and the authorities have been informed. You will also deal with contractors and participate in an out of hours emergency call out service as and when required.

As Maintenance Assistant, your duties will revolve around undertaking Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), fault finding, repairs, minor improvements and new works. This will include assisting in the diagnosis and repair of faults in electrical and mechanical installations, plants and equipment. In addition, you will be prepared to work occasionally in areas where a need exists to use a permit to work systems, specific health and safety guidance and use personal protective equipment (PPE). You will ensure that in carrying out all duties there is a compliance with all health and safety, quality and environment legislation and standards.

As a person, you will be reliable, self-motivated and keen to minimise any environmental impacts associated with the post with excellent customer care skills. Successful applicants will be required to have enhanced CRB disclosure clearance.
