Control & Instrumentation Engineer Australia Job in UK

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Principal Engineer – Control and Instrumentation to join the major power generation company in the Perth Metropolitan area of Western Australia. In this role you will provide overall control and instrumentation (C&I) engineering and maintenance direction, support and technical advice to support the company’s plant operating objectives. You will also oversee the safe, reliable and efficient operation and upgrade of C&I systems across the company’s generating plant.

Your responsibilities will include assessing C&I system equipment performance, providing technical advice to support plant operating objectives, and supporting plant staff to monitor and improve unit efficiencies. You will assess operational issues and develop options to improve performance and reliability of C&I equipment as well as lead the development of relevant C&I Corporate Directives, procedures, documentation and strategies for application across the company’s portfolio. You will lead, or assist with operational reviews and root cause analyses, and ensure that findings are communicated and acted upon to prevent recurrence. You will also lead, or assist with business case development for C&I equipment modification, upgrade or replacement.

The successful applicant will be of degree level in Electrical Engineering degree with specialisation in C & I. Ideally you will have Chartered status and a Postgraduate qualification in Business or Management is highly desirable. A driving license is also required. Significant relevant experience in thermal power station operations, maintenance or engineering, including significant C&I experience is essential. Any coal fired power station experience will be welcome.

You should also have thorough knowledge of power plant system operation and maintenance practices with particular expertise in assessing, tuning, and optimising C&I system components. Knowledge and application of all relevant national and international design codes and standards, as well as familiarity with power station C&I or electrical engineering maintenance models, policies and procedures is required. You will also require a detailed understanding of process control, plant automation, and SIL-rated systems plus proficiency in the preparation or review of C&I basic and detail engineering drawings, datasheets, calculations, specifications and procedures. High level people, communication, leadership, mentoring, customer and stakeholder management skills are essential as is the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in the use of key computer systems, including the MS Office suite is also required.
