Software Developer Bridgend Job in Mid Glamorgan, Wales, UK

We are seeking a Software Developer to join this world leader in the design, development and manufacture of precision, innovative downhole electromechanical data acquisition instrumentation for the worldwide oil and gas industry at their offices near Cardiff in South Wales. Their products are used to measure of flow, pressure, temperature and other parameters within the well bore.

Operating within the Engineering/ Sustaining Team, the Software Developer will be responsible for developing and implementing new functionality for the in-house technical management database systems and acting as systems analyst for software development as well as taking charge of the release of new software to challenging deadlines.

You will be required to carry out robust testing, debugging and proving of new software, to developi new real-time PC software applications and maintaining existing systems and to maintain and manage software release issues. You will develop access controls and processes for client access to company technical information and will contribute to Technical Proposals and Specification documentation.

As Software Developer you will be expected to operate at all times in accordance with company procedures and to comply with all statutory and corporate QHS&E requirements.

To succeed as Software/ Firmware Developer you should be qualified to a degree level in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics or closely related discipline with post graduate experience in complex, technical DB development. You must have well-developed software conceptual design skills, specific experience in at least four of the following: PHP, MySQL, HTML, Javascript, AJAX, .net and VB.net and a very logical manner of thinking and implementation.

You must be able to demonstrate your ability to develop sophisticated, multi-level algorithms for date-driven scheduling, optimisation and BOM management as well as a well-developed understanding of algorithm theory (i.e. recursion and data structures: stacks, queues and heaps).

A keen eye for user interface design and ability to optimise the user experience is essential, as is a robust debugging and software testing ethic and good team-working skills, flexibility and self-motivation.

Experience of PIC, FPGA or other firmware/embedded systems, Object oriented concepts (i.e. inheritance, overloading, class interfacing), Web-enabled applications including security requirements, the development of safety critical/real-time systems and Apache and/or Linux would be desirable.
